Nanjing outbreak genome sequencing detects Delta variant

The same authority issued a reminder yesterday via official channels to let the public know that genome sequencing has determined that the Delta variant of COVID-19 caused the current outbreak in Nanjing. 

At present, two prefectures and cities in Guangdong have reported positive cases in individuals returning from Nanjing to Guangdong, namely in Zhongshan and Zhuhai cities. 

Experts have said that although large-scale nucleic acid testing has been carried out in Zhuhai and Zhongshan, and despite all tests returning negative, this does not indicate a "zero risk" scenario for the areas.

Lin Peng, a chief scientist in the field of infections disease prevention and control of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that “this is a tough battle, and it is far from over. We are still in the stage of emergency prevention and control, and we cannot take the situation lightly or relax our vigilance.”
